Every Senior at WPI is required to complete their MQP or Major Qualifying Project. This year, I will be working on a Desktop PLA Shredder and Recycler to reduce the amount of waste buildup at WPI’s various 3D printing areas.
Our preliminary design utilizes a two-part shredder system. One large shredder for breaking down full parts into manageable chunks and one small shredder to break down chunks into pellets which can be dried and melted.
Salvaged from an old paper shredder with credit card shredding abilities, this small shredder is able to effectively pelletize smaller PLA parts.
As the year has only begun, not much information is publishable at this time. As permitted, more information will be added soon.
