Stats:

  • ~4 mph Shuffler Drive
  • 170g PLA+ Drum
  • Simple and Reliable Shuffler Drive

Achievements:

  • 2024 A-Term WPI PLAnt Competition Winner
  • June 2025 Northeastern PLAnt Competition Winner
  • 16-2 Record
  • Caused the shuffler weight bonus to be decreased at WPI due to its dominance

Whoopsie Daisy was my first combat robot ever, built at the start of my Sophomore year. Originally made to compete at WPI’s in-house events, it was designed to be a tank. As it utilizes Shuffler Drive, Whoopsie Daisy receives an additional weight bonus of 0.5lb. After finding success in 2024, Whoopsie Daisy went undefeated in June 2025 at Northeastern. Competing 0.25lb underweight at that event, it punched above its weight.

Officially retired, as I now run the WPI Events, Whoopsie Daisy sits among its trophies.

Design:

The first version of Whoopsie Daisy competed at one event, the 2024 C-Term PLAnt Comp at WPI, and finished 2-1.

This robot was my first attempt at shufflers, converting continuous rotational motion into linear motion. Over the course of three revisions, I was able to compact and simplify the system for both weight and durability.

The length of the stride and vertical displacement are determined by the eccentricity of the cam and distance between the center of rotation and the pivot point.

Version 2 took all the improvements in both design and filament selection and brought them together.
